Upcoming Events

Take a look at the events happening at Georgia Kinship Project, Inc. We have our Kin Caregiver Support Group coming up. If you are a caregiver and would like to attend any of these events please scan the QR codes or click the buttons at the bottom of each event page and register. Each event is completely free to caregivers.

Georgia Kinship Project will host two more Kinship Provider Support Group Sessions for the fall. Those sessions will take place on October 13, 2023, and November 10, 2023, beginning at 6:30 pm. Please consider joining us for these support group dates. This will be a space to share your experience of being a kinship caregiver and talk about concerns or worries should you have any as well as learn how different coping strategies can help manage stress, anxiety, grief, and loss. Georgia Kinship Project is excited to share that we are working to build a Kin Caregiver Support Group. As we are building, we would like to hear from our families. Georgia Kinship Project is partnering with Menchies Frozen Yogurt to host a fundraiser. If you would like to support the Georgia Kinship Project please join us at Menchies on October 12, 2023, from 3 pm to 6 pm. Let the cashier know you are with the Georgia Kinship Project or that you want to support the Georgia Kinship Project. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Georgia Kinship Project to help us continue to provide resources for our relative caregivers.

Hello Kin Families! Georgia Kinship Project is accepting applications for the 3rd Annual Holiday Assistance Program. This program will allow relative caregivers to apply for assistance with holiday needs for their relative children. The application will be open from October 3rd-9th. Applicants will be contacted by October 15th to be informed whether or not their application was accepted. To apply, the following criteria must be met:

 

  1. The child must be placed with a relative caregiver (i.e. grandparents, aunt, uncle, cousin, fictive kin, etc.) WITHOUT the care of a biological parent residing in the home. The legal status of the placement (informal or formal) does not restrict applicants. 

  2. Adult applicants must provide proof of placement of the child in the home. Acceptable documents may include: Guardianship order, placement letter from DFCS, Kinship Affidavit from the school district, notarized letter stating the agreement of the placement, reference from case manager, etc.

  3. The family must reside in DFCS region 6 which includes the following counties: Bibb, Houston, Peach, Crawford, Twiggs, Wilkinson, Jones, Monroe, Baldwin, Jasper, and Putnam counties.

  4. Applicants can NOT apply for their biological children. Only relative children residing with a relative caregiver are eligible for assistance. 

  5. Accepted applicants MUST pick up their items on December 9, 2023– NO EXCEPTIONS!

Georgia Kinship Project is a Central Georgia-based nonprofit organization serving relatives parenting other relative children at-risk for entering foster care. We provide a number of programs to address the specific needs of caregivers. Annually, Georgia Kinship Project works to support relative caregivers during the holiday season. We are seeking donors and volunteers that are willing to donate their time and resources to families in need in our community. Community members like you to propel our mission forward and serve the families of this community.

 

There are a number of ways you or your organization can us this holiday season. First, you can volunteer with our organization. We are seeking volunteers to help us with our holiday assistance project. We will be disseminating gifts to families on December 9, 2023. Volunteers will be tasked with organizing gifts and ensuring that the correct families receive their designated gifts. We utilize all donations for our Caregiver Resource Fund which goes towards purchasing necessities such as diapers, laundry detergent, and food. Georgia Kinship Project is hosting a fundraiser in conjunction with the Atlanta Hawks. By purchasing a ticket to the Atlanta Hawks game, to take place on February 10, 2024, you will be supporting the Georgia Kinship Project. The purchase of an Atlanta Hawks ticket will help Georgia Kinship Project raise funds to provide items for our relative caregivers.

Georgia Kinship Project needs your help to give relative caregivers the items they need that are essential to everyday living. If you have any twin beds, twin mattresses, dressers, cribs, and crib mattresses that are gently used or in good condition and would like to donate them to the Georgia Kinship Project please call 478-375-8603 to arrange a date and time to drop off the item(s) to the agency. If you would like to make a monetary donation to help kinship caregivers and their families you may scan the QR code above or visit the link located below. Anything you are willing to donate is always much appreciated.
